Neutrals for Summer

Neutrals for Summer

No love stronger than shoe love

I’m loving neutrals for summer, despite the usual trend toward bright bold colors

Don’t get me wrong - I LOVE bright bold colors for summer just like the rest of the population, I mean I am loving yellow this year (and every year, who am I kidding) and have found myself in brighter blues and more pinks than normal… But when it comes to shoes, I can’t stay away from the neutrals! I find myself gravitating toward them this year like they are the only thing catching my eye. Can you relate? If so, please share in the comments below so I can know if it’s me, or if neutrals are really killin’ it this year.

There is something so chic, clean, and simple about finishing a summer outfit with a nude colored shoe. Maybe it’s the way it resembles that barefoot kind of vibe or feeling - maybe it’s the balance a neutral brings to an outfit. Whatever it is, it’s got me buying a wide array of browns, beige, and light grays… and I’m not mad about it (even if my bank account is LOL)

Only one pair of shoes pictured above were brought over from last summer, everything else is new.. oops. The grey Dolce Vita Espadrille Wedges were such a hit though when they came out last year, that you will find them still fully stocked at a DSW near you (or online). They are actually on sale right now, so I would act fast in case they finally sell out. These babies are super comfortable and cute, provide a fun look that dresses up any relaxed summer outfit, and match with a ton of different colors you wouldn’t expect.

The Steve Madden sandals have been one of the only pairs of sandals I have needed this summer. The two toned leather makes them incredibly versatile - they literally go with everything. The thick leather grips your heel so you don’t step out of them, but is soft enough that the toe strap doesn’t rub your skin. They originally came in a ton of color combinations, but they are selling out fast. I picked them up from Nordstom Rack - Click here to get yours.

I love a good cognac colored leather or suede, and it’s obvious by how many pairs of brown shoes I have in my closet. I would recommend the beautiful cognac colored suede Calvin Klein pumps (also on sale!) to any woman who works in an office, IF pumps are your thing. Don’t push it if they aren’t. Why? Not because these are high and will hurt your feet or anything… but because the size runs sort of particular and if you aren’t used to toughing out that process to find your perfect fitting pump I wouldn’t go for these as a first try. They are gorgeous, but the sizing is unpredictable because the fabric is so soft (which also makes them incredibly comfy once you find the pair that fits!)

Probably my favorite shoe pictured above is the cognac colored Steve Madden Espadrille Wedge sandal. This is by far the comfiest wedge/sandal type shoe I have ever had and I am so glad I took a chance on them. The sawtooth sole isn’t something I usually go for, but because it was thin and the white made it really pop I decided to go for it. They are so low they feel like a flat sandal, but look like a wedge. Definitely recommend these for summer - they come in a few different colors too, and a snakeskin that I’m incredibly tempted to get. Speaking of snakeskin…

Last, but certainly not least, are the Steve Madden snakeskin pointed toe slide mules. I consider this kind of snakeskin a neutral, how about you? I think it works because it doesn’t draw attention, just gives some sort of subtle fun detail. Unfortunately I cannot find this exact pair anywhere to link for you, but Nordstrom is carrying a new release of their snakeskin mule that looks even more fitting for summer than the pictured pair. because of a wooden heel. Check them out here.
