Day Date - Outfit Inspiration

Day Date - Outfit Inspiration

There’s not much that feels better to my soul than a day date with the person who makes me whole <3

Sappy, I know.

But it’s true! When we’re lucky enough to find our person, our lobster, the one …. you cherish them and the time you get to spend together. Brandon and I don’t have regular date nights because our schedules are pretty much opposite of one another, so when the opportunity for a date night comes up we jump on it. The only thing is that for two busy people always on the go, traditional date nights can be hard to enjoy to the fullest. One of us is too tired from dinner to make it through the movie, the other doesn’t get home early enough to go to the restaurant planned on, one of us works too early the next day to stay out, etc. Because of this, our favorite dates are during the day!

Day dates are the best actually, because they are longer, can be more relaxed, and can open up a slough of activities that are not quite as possible or enjoyable once the sun goes down.

The catch? Not as obvious for what to wear!

I know my ‘going out’ style is much different than my regular day wear. Date night outfits can still be tricky, but one thing is explicitly implied - for a date night outfit, you typically dress up a little bit and go with something a little sexier than your day to day wear. Black is always an option and so is a bit of cleavage or a shorter skirt. These types of picks can feel totally unnatural to go for when putting together a day-time date outfit thought and that’s understandable. The summer-time solution? summer sun dresses!

At least during the warmer months, sun dresses are the perfect thing to reach for when contemplating what to wear for a date-time date. Sun dresses are fun and flirty, without being too obviously sexy. You can still show a bit of leg if it’s short or cleavage if it’s low cut, but it doesn’t feel as out of place as a cocktail dress or low cut blouse and skinny jeans might. When picking your summer sun dress, I think it’s really important to go with something that feels comfortable, so that you feel confident and undistracted by the fit and/or feel of your clothes. There is nothing worse than wanting your date to end because you want out of your uncomfortable outfit, or not being able to fully focus because you aren’t confident in what you are wearing. Stay true to yourself and remember that you don’t have to be revealing to be sexy and flirty. Wearing a dress that has full coverage, but some fun ruffle or other detail can do the trick of keeping your date’s eyes on you.

This sun dress from Vici Dolls is one of my absolute favorites, especially for that reason. I love the embroidered details, the ruffled hem, and flouncy sleeves. Plus, did you see the key hole lines throughout the body of the dress and lining the bodice? Delicate details like that are what give this dress such a special feel. To be completely honest, I saw this dress for the first time when scrolling through IG stalking my favorite blogger accounts. It seemed like every blogger I followed had this dress, and was posting the cutest pictures in it. Well, because I was just starting out on my blogging journey, I decided I needed it too! I needed to know what the hype was all about, I guess.

Anyways, I’m glad that I did. The hype was not unfounded; this dress is really all that. It is captivating - making it perfect for a day date. It looks like vacation to me and that’s how it feels when I wear it. Typically I would pair this dress with sandals because it screams summer, but this time I decided to switch it up. Since Mother Nature has decided to do whatever she wants this year, (temperatures have been a bit cooler and days have been a little breezier later into the year than ever) I threw on a pair of low booties and a hat to complete the look for this particular day date.

Adding winter-y accessories is the perfect way to tone down a summer sun dress for a spring outfit or when the weather calls for it. If you aren’t sure what I mean by this, go back to my “In Bloom: Spring Time Transition” blog-post to learn more. Styling the dress a little more than I usually would felt like a risk, because you never want to be over the top or do too much, but this risk paid off I would say. My honey thought I looked pretty good, and I felt pretty dang good in it too - which is really what matters, am I right?
