Pretty Little Details: Spotlight On Accessories

Sometimes all an outfit needs are some pretty little details to make it POP

“Fall/Winter”

I’m a huge fan of accessories and I’ll tell you why:

Belts, earrings, shoes, bangles, bags, hair ties, necklaces, etc.. I love them all; and I have a lot of them. Having a wide array of accessories allows you to become infinitely creative with your outfits though, so the more the better in my opinion. With all of these little tools at your disposal you can show off your style in really big ways. Accessories can elevate an outfit by providing the finishing touch or by changing the look or vibe all together. Pairing good accessories together enables you to get the most out of literally any piece of clothing in your closet because you can give it life in so many different ways. Accessories can be the best investment because they can actually save you big bucks in this way by extending the usefulness of your garments.

Take this simple flannel dress for example. A total steal in and of itself (made of a stretchy cotton fabric and ringing in under $20.00 at Ross) this dress has gone miles for me be cause it is so comfortable and I love wearing it. On top of that, it pairs so well with a ton of different accessories to create a bunch of different looks. I love the black and white because using accessories for a pop of color is one of my favorite styles. To make an example of this I wanted to gather pictures of a few times I changed the style of this flannel dress just by using accessories for a pop of color. I gotta say, I really like these examples because not only did I change the vibe of this dress and outfit by pairing different accessories, but in doing this I also took it from one season to another.

I adore the “spring time” look I did with the flannel dress and yellow accessories. The bright yellow beaded earrings are one of my favorites because they give an instant jolt of unexpected color that makes every outfit a little more fun. They often make enough of a statement on their own so I never pair with more than a simple gold chain necklace. This gold leather Coach purse was the closest I had to match - but hey, it worked! Finished the look with a strappy wedge sandal and a braided black belt to keep the focus on color.

I’m not sure which look I like better though, if I’m being honest.

Throwing it back to when I styled the “fall/winter” version of this flannel dress. To keep warm I wore thick opaque black tights, which definitely is what gave this outfit the winter tone. Sometimes flannel can feel feel really masculine (especially when all of your skin is covered up), so I paired the look with dainty pearl accessories to maintain a more feminine feel. The pearl belt is my favorite pretty little detail because that belt can be worn with freakin’ everything, let me just tell you. (Target ladies, Target.) The wine colored sock booties and matching Michael Kors purse are really what put the outfit over the edge for me. That kind of level of styling is what fires me up. That version of this dress had ALL the pretty little details. Okay.. maybe I know which one is my favorite.
